Dr. Shilpi Verma has been associated with School of Energy and Environment, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala Campus as Assistant Professor. She received the PhD degree in 2013, from IIT Roorkee India with focus on Petrochemical wastewater treatment technologies. She was the recipeint of MHRD fellowship for pursuing Ph.D.The research was aimed on the application of physico-chemical treatment technologies using coagulation-flocculation, thermochemical precipitation and adsorption techniques for the petrochemical waste water treatment.

She also worked as project fellow in Ganga River Basin Management Plan (GRBMP), prepared by consortium of 7 IITs. The plan is being implemented by National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) under Namami Gange Programme.

Dr. Shilpi has worked as post-doctoral researcher (2014) at LUT Finland with Prof. Mika E. T. Sillanpää.The project was focused on the treatment of anatoxin-a (a cyanotoxin, released during the algal bloom) contaminated water using advanced oxidation processes. UV-C LEDs were used in conjunction with  H2O2 and PMS. Anatoxin-a was successfully  removed both from natural lake water and synthetic water. During her tenure as Post-doctoral researcher she had the opportunity to interact and get insights from Prof. Shuji Nakamura (Noble Laureate) which resulted in a research article.

She has also explored the area of renewable energy (2016) through the research work on methanol steam reforming for the production of hydrogen at IIT Guwahati.
